Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What days are the wineries open? What are their hours?

A: You’ll find wineries open in El Dorado every day of the week. All members of the El Dorado Winery Association are open at least Friday-Sunday, and many of them are open daily. Please look to the wineries’ links for hours and holiday schedules.

Q: Is there a charge to taste wine?

A: Here’s a friendly gesture that sets El Dorado apart from many other wine regions: Our wineries offer complimentary tastings of many of their wines. Some have a reserve panel of wines available for a small charge.  During special events hosted by our wineries, there is a charge for food and wine.

Q: How can I arrange a tour of a winery?

A: Some of our wineries offer tours with advance notice.  Please look to the wineries’ links or in the EDWA brochure for the following symbols: "T" (Tours available) and "C" (Call for a tour at least a day in advance). Call those that offer tours to make advance arrangements.

Q: Can your wineries accommodate limousines or buses?

A: Please keep in mind that our wineries — and even our parking lots— are small.   If you plan to arrive by limo, or if your party is larger than 8, we recommend that you call the winery at least a day in advance to make arrangements for your visit. Our tasting room staffs want to provide each of our visitors with a memorable, personal experience — a challenging goal when a large group of people arrives in the tasting room at the same time.

Q: Which wineries host weddings or special events?

A: The wineries that host special events have symbols next to their listings on this Web site and in the EDWA brochure: "S" (Special event facilities). Please contact those wineries for more information.

Q: May I picnic at the wineries?

A: You’ll find lovely picnic areas at many of our wineries. Please see winery listings and in the EDWA brochure denoted with a “P” for picnic facilities.

Q: Do the wineries sell picnic items?

A: Some of the tasting rooms sell light snacks. Not all of the tasting rooms carry picnic goodies, though, so you’d be smart to call in advance or pack something to enjoy with your wine purchase.

Q: Are there restaurants and lodging in the wine country?

A: Yes. The region offers plenty of food and lodging choices to create the perfect getaway. There are many restaurants that cater to a variety of tastes, from gourmet to casual fare. And don’t forget the locally grown, seasonal produce you’ll find along your route. Lodging choices include hotels and historic bed and breakfast inns. Whether you’re looking for something in downtown Placerville or Fair Play, or in nearby El Dorado Hills, Folsom or Cameron Park, you’ll find listings on this Web site and through Chambers of Commerce sites.

Q: Where can I purchase wine-related products?

A: Many of our tasting rooms offer wine-related products for sale, from art to corkscrews.

Q: Need more information about growing grapes and making wine in El Dorado?

A: Please refer to our “Fact Sheet” or contact the El Dorado Department of Agriculture.
